چکیده

The mechanism underlying a phenomenon of such a general occurrence as the supersensitivity after denervation has often been attributed to a decrease of the enzyme cholinesterase in the tissues concerned. Different organs exhibit varying degrees of hypersensitivity; skeletal and smooth muscle, glands, autonomic ganglion cells and neurones of the spinal cord and brain all develop this post-denervation sensitisation. Cannon (1939) in his 'Law of Denervation' states "When the efferent neurones in a unit are sectioned, an increased iritability to chemical agents develops in the denervated segment".

A tion of drugs on denervated myoepithelial cells of salivary glands.

1. The pressure in the ducts of the two submaxillary glands was recorded in anaesthetized dogs in which either the superior cervical ganglion had been removed or the chorda-lingual nerve had been cut on one side, 17-30 days earlier. Noradrenaline, adrenaline, phenylephrine, acetylcholine and methacholine were injected to produce pressure rises attributed to contraction of myoepithelial cells.2....

Characteristics of the internal anal sphincter and the rectum of the vervet monkey.

1. The physiology of the internal anal sphincter of the vervet monkey was investigated. 2. Strips of sphincter in vitro contracted to noradrenaline and adrenaline; adrenoceptors were mainly alpha-excitatory. Strips of rectal circular muscle relaxed to noradrenaline and contained both inhibitory alpha- and beta-adrenoceptors. 3. All strips contracted to acetylcholine. After hyoscine or atropine,...

Role of circulating catecholamines in human eccrine sweat gland control.

1. Intra-arterially as well as intradermally administered adrenaline or noradrenaline produces a sweat response. 2. The intensity of the intradermal response is always considerably less than that due to acetylcholine and the threshold of effective concentration is considerably greater than for acetylcholine. The glands also fail to respond to repeated small doses of intradermal catecholamine an...

Tissue sensitivity to acetylcholine, adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin and agents acting on sulphydryl groups.

Parachloromercury benzoate (PCMB), a sulphydryl inactivator, caused a progressively increasing inhibition of tissue responses to acetylcholine, adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin in vitro. This inhibition was progressively and completely reversed by penicillamine, a sulphydryl activator. It is inferred that intact sulphydryl groups are essential for constancy of responses of excitable tiss...

The Diagnostic Value of B-Mode Sonography in Differentiation of Malignant and Benign Tumors of the Parotid Gland

Introduction: Different imaging modalities are used to evaluate salivary gland diseases, including tumors. Ultrasonography (US) is the preferred method on account of its ease of use, affordability, safety profile, and good tolerance among patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of US in differentiating malignant from benign parotid tumors, in the context of previous controversy...
